Biography
James “Jimmy” Durbin, MSW, LCSW, LCADC, is the Founder and Clinical Director of HeartWise Health in Southern Nevada. He is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Nevada, Utah, and Arizona, a Licensed Clinical Alcohol and Drug Counselor in Nevada, and an approved clinical supervisor.
Jimmy has spent much of his professional life working with individuals and families affected by trauma, addiction, homelessness, grief, anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, and justice system involvement. His clinical approach is trauma informed, relational, and grounded in the belief that every person has inherent worth and the capacity for healing.
His clinical work includes EMDR, addiction and recovery counseling, motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral approaches, Internal Family Systems principles, and nervous system focused interventions. He works with individuals experiencing complex trauma, substance use concerns, mood and anxiety disorders, relationship difficulties, grief, shame, identity concerns, and major life transitions.
Jimmy also has extensive experience working with populations who are often underserved or marginalized. Through his work with Shine A Light and other community partners, he has worked alongside individuals experiencing homelessness, including people living in and transitioning from the Las Vegas tunnel communities. His work has also included supporting survivors of human trafficking and sexual exploitation, as well as individuals working in the sex industry. His approach emphasizes dignity, safety, autonomy, connection, and access to appropriate behavioral health, recovery, and community resources.
Jimmy has also developed significant experience working within specialty treatment courts and the justice system. His work has included Drug Court, DUI Court, Veterans Treatment Court, and other court involved populations. These experiences have allowed him to work at the intersection of mental health, substance use, accountability, recovery, trauma, and community reintegration.
Before founding HeartWise Health, Jimmy served as Clinical Director at CrossRoads of Southern Nevada. He continues to collaborate with behavioral health providers, recovery organizations, courts, nonprofits, community agencies, and organizations serving individuals with complex behavioral health and social needs.
Service through The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints Addiction Recovery Program has been an important part of Jimmy’s life for approximately 15 years. He serves as an Area Coordinator for Southern Nevada and Arizona, serves as an Addiction Recovery Program missionary, and continues to facilitate a weekly Thursday evening Addiction Recovery Program group. His years of service in recovery ministry have deeply influenced his understanding of addiction, agency, accountability, grace, forgiveness, spiritual healing, and the importance of connection.
Jimmy’s faith in Jesus Christ is central to his life and informs the way he understands compassion, human worth, healing, and the possibility of change. When desired by the client, he welcomes the integration of faith and spiritual principles into therapy while respecting each person’s beliefs, values, agency, and individual journey.
In addition to direct clinical care, Jimmy provides clinical supervision, consultation, and mentorship to developing behavioral health professionals. He is passionate about helping the next generation of therapists develop strong clinical skills while remaining grounded in compassion, humility, ethics, and respect for the people they serve.
Through HeartWise Health, Jimmy has developed a philosophy of healing centered on five principles: Remember, Regulate, Reveal, Restore, and Release. He believes healing is not about defining people by their diagnosis, addiction, trauma, mistakes, or most difficult moments. It is about helping people reconnect with who they are, understand what they carry, restore what has been injured, and move toward greater freedom, connection, and purpose.
At the center of Jimmy’s personal life, clinical work, recovery service, and leadership is a simple belief: Love Matters!!
